Julien Epaillard (FRA) – current world number four – and Cancun Torel Z (Cosinhus x Grannus) won Thursday's CSI4* 1.50m Prix Espace Beaujolais Agglo at the 2024-edition of Mâcon Chaintré Jumping International.
Stopping the clock on 64.96 seconds, Epaillard took the win ahead of Scott Brash (GBR) and Hello Vittoria (Kannan x Olisco) in second in 67.70. Richard Breul (FRA) and Easy (Siwing De Triaval x Baloubet du Rouet) placed third with a time of 68.15, followed by Cedrid Hurel (FRA) and Fantasio Floreval Z (Florian De La Vie x Clinton) in fourth in 68.90, and Morgan Bordat (FRA) aboard Uma (Calvaro F.C. x Veneur D'etenclin) in fifth in 69.18 – making it a good day for the host nation.
"Cancun is a very competitive mare and very comfortable in speed classes at this level," Epaillard said in a press release from Mâcon Chaintré Jumping International. "She is a mare with a lot of quality and heart. If I ride well, we are generally on the podium in this type of class. This week, I also have Donatello d'Auge and Dubai du Cèdre with me. Donatello jumped a small class today and I found him in very good shape. He had a break after the CSI5* in Windsor and seeing him fresh and happy to jump after these few weeks off made me very happy! He should therefore jump the Grand Prix on Sunday, while Dubai Cedar will do a small class on Saturday and Sunday to stay in shape. I came to Mâcon a long time ago and the site has changed a lot since then. The ground, the stables, the parking, I think the facilities are great – I’m delighted to be here."
