The CSI4* 1.60m Amadeus Grand Prix of Salzburg presented by Sportland Salzburg concluded this year’s edition of the Amadeus Horse Indoors 2024 in Salzburg, Austria, and it was the host nation's own Katharina Rhomberg and Cuma 5 (Comme Il Faut x Ars Vivendi) that went off with yet another home win after also topping Friday’s Amadeus Championat of Salzburg.
First to return for the jump-off of six horse-and-rider combinations, Dutch rider Kevin Jochems and Camilla van de Helle (Crumble x Casall) set the time to beat to 49.78 seconds – putting pressure on the remaining five riders. Next in the ring, Germany’s Emile Baurand and Champ (Champion x Pessoavelle) could not quite keep up and crossed the finish line in 50.68 seconds – leaving Jochems on top of the score board.
Austria’s Markus Saurugg and Obora’s Crunchy Nut (Cardento x Corrado I) were the third pair out and to the delight of the home crowds the two shaved the time to beat down to 49.13 seconds which was good enough to take over the lead.
While neither Sweden’s Erica Lickhammer-Van Helmond on I.Comme Tessa VHL (Comme Il Faut x Casall) nor Norway’s Marit Haarr Skollerud Cox on Nelson van'T Roosakker (Zandor x Kashmir van Schuttershof) could do anything about Saurugg, Katharina Rhomberg gave it her all as last to go and chased down Saurugg – punching the air as she crossed the finish line in 47.62 seconds to snatch the win from her compatriot, leaving Jochems in third, Baurand in fourth and Lickhammer-Van Helmond in fifth.
