It was a home win in Sunday's CSI3* Grand Prix 'Vilamoura World' with Luís Sabino Gonçalves topping the 1.50m competition aboard the 11-year-old gelding Scott Império Egípcio (Lord Calando x Nidor Platiere).
"I'm very happy, especially because I won with a horse that I just purchased. He has developed very well. It is a horse with a lot of potential, also with the European Championships this year in mind," said Luís Sabino Gonçalves.
The Grand Prix has 45 riders in it, and seven of them moved on to the jump-off after clear rounds. Dutch rider Charlotte Verhagen on Abache HL (Cantos x Lux) finished as runner-up 0.52 behind the winner while Great Britain's Ellen Whitaker took the third place on Arena UK Winston (Waldo Van Dungen x Hamilton Tropic) a little over a second behind Luís Sabino Gonçalves.
Radovan Sillo (SVK) had the last double clear of the day to finish fourth, while Laura Renwick (GBR) was fifth with four faults in the jump-off.
