FEI jumpers took to the Dixon Oval for the final time at the 129th Devon Horse Show and Country Fair on Saturday evening, vying for the iconic John Wanamaker Perpetual Trophy. In the end, it was Mark Bluman (COL) and Ubiluc (Ubiko x Lucian) who topped the CSI4* 1.50m $145,100 Idle Dice Jumper Stake, sponsored by The Philadelphia Trust Company in memory of Rodney Jenkin.
Mark Bluman checked an item off of his horse show bucket list, claiming his first-ever victory in the Dixon Oval at Devon. Riding his long-time partner Ubiluc, owned by Over The Top Stables LLC, the duo sped to victory with a jump-off time of 34.2 seconds.
“In all honesty, the plan was not to jump him today,” said Bluman. “After Thursday, I told him before the Grand Prix, I said, if you’re top three, you don’t jump on Saturday. We were ninth, so we took a shot. We always come here to this horse show. My horse is unbelievable. He’s been great over the last few years. He’s made my dreams come true. Winning here in the Dixon Oval was one of them.”
Darragh Kenny (IRL) and Cosmos BH (Chellano Alpha Z x Artos Z) finished second with a time of 35.51 seconds, followed by Nayel Nassar (EGY) and Igor van de Wittemore (Cooper vd Heffinck x Orlando) in third after the two crossed the timers in 35.60 seconds.
Mark Bluman was also awarded as the Leading Open Jumper Rider of the show, winning The Orchard Lodge Perpetual Trophy.
