The second Grand Prix qualifier at CSI4* Jumping International Liege proved to be a difficult task, but French rider Patrice Delaveau delivered to take the win. Delaveau produced one of only two double clear rounds in the 1.50 Prix de la Ville de Liege, a class that turned out to demand a lot more than the first qualifier - that saw no less than twenty riders going clear.
This time around the course was a far bigger challenge, something that took it's toll on those riders that had chosen not to jump their Grand Prix horses - but rather the more inexperienced ones. In the end over half of the class finished on an eight penalty score or more, and only six riders went clear - quite the opposite of Friday's qualifier.
Only Delaveau on his long-time partner Ornella Mail HDC (Lando x Alligator Fontaine) and home rider Karel Cox on Cayen van het Obos (Cornet Obolensky x Corrado) managed to produce clear rounds in the jump-off as well, but the French speed machines were by far the fastest with over two seconds down to the Belgian couple. Niels Brunynseels - also representing the host nation - had the fastest time of the class, but on the expense of four faults and had to settle for third on Gancia de Muze (Malito de Reve x Nimmerdor).
