Edited and translated press release from Al Shira'aa German Show Jumping & Dressage Derby 2025
It was a case of family history at the Al Shira'aa German Show Jumping & Dressage Derby 2025 when Rolf-Göran Bengtsson (SWE) rode the 10-year-old Casall-son Caillan to victory in the CSI4* 1.50m Grand Prix presented by CPA Lichtkonzept GmbH & Co.KG in Hamburg on Saturday. Eight years ago, the Swedish rider won the CSI5* 1.60m Grand Prix in Hamburg with Caillan’s sire Casall, before retiring the exceptional stallion at the age of 18.
"Of course, I'm also thinking about that moment when I was at the top here in Hamburg with Casall. And now I'm coming here with one of his sons and winning the Grand Prix of the four-star tour – that's tremendous!" Bengtsson said.
Four of the eight pairs in the jump-off remained clear, but Bengtsson and Caillan delivered the absolute fastest round with a time of 38.21 seconds. Mike Van Olst (BEL) and Comme Elle Faut Odth Z (Comme Il Faut x Canabis Z) followed in second place with a time of 39.86 seconds. Third place went to Max-Hilmar Borchert (GER) and DSP Catherina H (Chacco-Blue x Argentinus) who clocked a time of 40.16 seconds.
"It was an open jump-off course, and we were able to gallop forward nicely," analysed six-time Olympian Bengtsson. "I took a bit of a risk and went very close into the combination, which worked out very well. He jumped with great focus and cleared it very cleanly. And – of course – I rode full risk to the last jump."
