Ireland's Shane Sweetnam – current world number 12 – and the 9-year-old Cjoxx Z (Comme Il Faut x Tlaloc la Silla, bred by Joop Timmer) won Saturday night's CSI5* 1.60m Grand Prix in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
With a time of 43.03, Sweetnam and Cjoxx Z took the win after a jump-off between eight horse-and-rider-combinations. "This was a great win for Cjoxx," Sweetnam commented to World of Showjumping. "I had a good feeling that we had a big chance this weekend. He has been very consistent since we started together and I am very happy that he could win such a big Grand Prix."
Mexico's own Andres Azcarraga and Contendros 2 (Contendro I x Drosselklang II, bred by Wilhelm Berghorn) had to settle for the runner-up spot with their time of 44.92, while Brazil's Santiago Lambre and Chacco Blue II (Chacco-Blue x Cincaba Rouge, bred by Gestüt Lewitz/Paul Schockemöhle) placed third with a fence down in 44.17. Lambre's compatriot Bruno Cavalheiro Rebello and Huberth B (Verdi TN x Mr Blue, bred by F.A.J. van der Burg) finished fourth with four faults in 46.86, while Germany's Richard Vogel and Cepano Baloubet (Chaman x Stakkato's Highlight, bred by Wolfgang Seemann) ended fifth after eight faults but the fastest time of the class – 41.73.
