Edited and translated press release from Al Shira'aa German Show Jumping & Dressage Derby 2025
"I'm speechless – this is unbelievable!" The 32-year-old Mexican rider Andres Azcarraga was lost for words after riding his 13-year-old mare Atlantica du Soleil Z (Atlantus van de Roshoeve x Felin Pierville) to the victory in Friday's CSI5* 1.50m Prize of B. Grimm at the Al Shira'aa German Show Jumping & Dressage Derby 2025 in Hamburg, Germany.
As second-last to go of the 14 competitors in the jump-off, the Mexican rider snatched the win with a time of 39.98 seconds. "I couldn't have imagined a better day today. I've only had the mare since this year, and while we have already won a three-star Grand Prix in Mexico this month this victory here in the five-star tour is the greatest success with her so far," Azcarraga said. "Such a great show, it's fantastic!" the Mexican rider added about the Al Shira'aa German Show Jumping & Dressage Derby.
As the last pair out in the jump-off, Kristaps Neretnieks (LAT) and Corlansky-Pro (Corlani x Cadensky) came very close to the winning time but had to settle for second after clocking in on 40.58 seconds. Mario Stevens (GER) held the lead for quite a while; with Carrie (Christian x Couleur Rubin) he delivered a fast round in 40.62 seconds and eventually ended third.
