“A huge amount of work happens behind the scenes,” Bassem Mohammed (QAT) said in a press release from Doha Equestrian Tour after winning Saturday’s CSI5* 1.45m competition at the Al Shaqab Equestrian Centre in Doha, Qatar, with the 11-year-old gelding Wathnan Zodiak (VDL Zirocco Blue x Dutch Capitol Z). “We are the ones in the ring at the end, but this result belongs to the whole team,” he continued.
Besting a field of 17 horse-and-rider combinations on the third day of the Qatar Equestrian Federation Cup 2026, Bassem and Wathnan Zodiak took the win with a time of 69.45 seconds. Mohamad Mogheeth Alshehab (SYR) on Saphir Z (Sandro Boy x Lavall 5) had to settle for the second place in 69.69, while Nasouh Kayali (JOR) aboard Kamacho P.S. (Emir R x Numero Uno) completed the podium in third when crossing the finish line only fractions behind, stopping the clock on 69.70 seconds.
