Press release from Oxer Sport
The very enthusiastic crowd at the Sunshine Tour cheered on the top international riders in Sunday’s CSI3* Grand Prix, such as Jérôme Guery, Gudrun Pateet, Laura Kraut, Penelope Leprevost and Jake Saywell. The competitors were spanning the generations, from the youngest riders such as Harry Charles – who is 20 years old – and Jodie Hall McAteer – who is 19 – to the incredible 71-year-old Michel Robert.
There were 14 riders in the jump-off and it was not to be missed. Louis Koninckx was the course designer and his layout really suited Irish rider Richard Howley and Chinook (Tygo x Wellington). Howley is a regular at the Sunshine Tour, bringing a variety of horses down from HK Stables which he runs alongside Morgan Kent.
Howley said: “I know this horse very well and besides being extremely fast he can turn on a sixpence. I really hope to ride in the Invitational Grand Prix at the end of the Tour with one of the top horses that we have brought down.”
Great Britain’s Jake Saywell is always incredibly competitive and today was no exception – he rode a stunning round on the 12-year-old mare Havinia Van de Roshoeve (Cicero Z x Lacantus). Third place was taken by another Brit – the youngest rider in the class – with an incredibly well ridden, fast round from Jodie Hall Mcateer on Salt ’n Peppa (Stolzenberg x Escudo I).
