After showing formidable form in Thursday’s opening round of the CSIO5* Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ Final 2022 in Barcelona, Spain, the French riders continued on their winning streak on Saturday as Julien Epaillard (FRA) and the 9-year-old Donatello D'Auge (Jarnac x Hello Pierville) took the top honours in the CSIO5* 1.50m Queens Cup - Segura Vidas Trophy ahead of compatriot Kevin Staut.
Fourteen pairs out of the 57 horse-and-rider-combinations in round one moved on to the decisive second round, where Epaillard – the current world number five – once again proved why he so often is referred to as the French speed specialist. Racing over the finish line in 38.46 seconds, Epaillard took the win on his homebred Donatello D'Auge ahead of Staut – who gave it his best with Visconti Du Telman (Toulon x Dollar du Murier), but had to settle for the runner-up position when the clock stopped on 39.14.
Olivier Philippaerts (BEL) on Cap Du Marais (Kannan x Landor S) placed third, while fourth went to Pedro Veniss (BRA) on Böckmann's Lord Pezi Junior (Böckmann's Lord Pezi x Quattro 7) and fifth to Mario Stevens (GER) on Starissa (Stakkato Gold x Quidam's Rubin).
