Egypt’s Nayel Nassar and the 13-year-old Coronado (San Patrignano Cassini x Acord II) won Thursday’s CSIO5* 1.60m Anglesea Stakes at Dublin Horse Show in Ireland.

Fourteen horse-and-rider-combinations from the starting field of 52 cleared the first-round track and joined the deciding jump-off, where nine of them produced another clear. With a time of 35.27, Nassar took the win, leaving Ireland’s Cian O’Connor on C Vier 2 (Cardento 933 x Concorde) to the runner-up position – with 0.7 seconds separating the two.

"It feels great winning at such a prestigious and historical show," Nassar told World of Showjumping after his win. "I have to say the crowd here is second to none, they really push you to be the best you can be and you can tell they are just so educated about the sport. This was the first real course of the week, a technical and big track with a snug time allowed that saw faults all over the place. At the end there was the right number of clears for a fast jump-off. Coronado had a light summer so far, we’ve been building him back up after some down-time in the spring with the goal to have him ready for some big Grand Prixs by the end of the summer."

"Today he really felt ready to win," Nassar continued speaking about his horse. "He was already flying in the warm-up so I felt like I just needed to execute my riding. I haven’t had too many jump-offs with him and he often gets quite strong when you get him going against the clock, but today he was with me the whole way around. We have a fantastic team at Evergate and this was really a team win. Our barn manager Chris told me we would win something big soon and turns out he was right."

Switzerland’s Steve Guerdat on Albführen’s Maddox (Cohiba 1198 x Maraton) slotted in between the Irish riders – who continued showing great form on home turf – taking the third place. The fourth spot went to Ireland’s Billy Twomey on Vagabon des Forest (Corofino 2 x Richebourg) and fifth to his compatriot Denis Lynch on Cristello (Numero Uno x Voltaire).
