We look back at Ben Maher and Explosion W's magnificent night at the Baji Koen Equestrian Park, where the two jumped to the gold medal for Great Britain.
Behind all the success Maher and Explosion have experienced over the last years, is of course a tremendous team effort and the British rider did not hesitate to give his groom Cormac Kenny a big hug after securing the Olympic gold medal. "My groom Cormac Kenny, he has been with me a long time – we don't mention him very often – but he is a big part of the team and takes incredible care of Explosion," Maher said at the press conference.

A special bond...
"He just has a huge stride, a very sort of flat canter when I open him up, and I don't have to slow down to jump the jumps – the jump kind of slows him down, if you like. I have never ridden a horse that I can ride in the jump-off like the jumps almost aren't there and he responds even better to that pressure. It’s something you can't train a horse, he is just very, very intelligent," Maher said of Explosion W's extra gear against the clock.
