As the 2024-edition of CHIO Aachen came to a close on Sunday afternoon, USA's McLain Ward received the Prize of the Federal Minister of the Interior and Community – an award that is presented to the best placed jumping rider of the entire show with five competitions and six rounds counting for points.
Ward had a great week in Aachen this year, placing second in Wednesday's Turkish Airlines-Prize of Europe and third in Saturday's Allianz-Cup with Callas (Casall x Coriano). In Sunday's Rolex Grand Prix, Ward finished second with Ilex (Baltic VDL x Chin Chin) after three clear rounds.
With a total of 39 points, Ward actually amassed the same amount of points as Great Britain's Ben Maher who ranked second – but being the best of the two in the Grand Prix, Ward won the award. The third best rider of the show was Germany's Jana Wargers, also she on 39 points, but with a 6th place in the Grand Prix.
