CHIO Aachen 2021

It was an unusually emotional Marcus Ehning who took Misanto Pret A Tout for a last gallop around the main arena in Aachen on Saturday night, as the curtains closed for the now 18-year-old gelding with a beautiful retirement ceremony. Present were many of those close to Pret A Tout; his breeder, his owner Ruth Krech and her daughter Carol, as well as his former rider Kaya Lüthi, his groom Mel Jobst, German Chef d'Equipe Otto Becker and Ehning's family.

With Ehning in the saddle, Misanto Pret A Tout has had an exceptional career. In 2018, the pair won two of the most prestigious Grand Prix classes in the world: The Rolex Grand Prix in Aachen and Geneva. They were also part of the winning German team in the Mercedes-Benz Nations Cup in Aachen in 2018, 2017 and 2016. Victories in the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup in Madrid in 2019, the CSI5* Longines Global Champions Tour in Madrid in 2016, the CSI5* Grand Prix in Gothenburg in 2016 as well as the Longines FEI Nations Cup Final in Barcelona in 2016 are also among their greatest achievements.

Ehning and Pret A Tout were also on the German bronze team at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon in 2018, and competed at the European Championships in Gothenburg in 2017.
