Christian Ahlmann - the winner - was asked about his tactics as the first to go in the jump-off: Go as fast possible or to play it more safe? “Something in between... I wanted to put the pressure on my colleagues. They are all fast so I tried to put the pressure on but still be clear."

Christian on his partner Codex One that was out with an injury during the winter; "The last show was in Lausanne. We gave him a lot of time to recover before we started slowly with the Z-Tour in Lanaken with some small classes. He jumped the big class in Hamburg and then in Rotterdam. Step by step he came back to his old shape. From the first moment here this week he did a really good job - like last year. He does well in this ring and he was fresh enough today to do three clear rounds. Now he is back in shape!"

Christian also explained that he was not at all disappointed that he was not a part of the German team in the Nations Cup as he did not think the horse was ready for both the Nations Cup and the Grand Prix. Instead he could focus on the Grand Prix, which turned out well.

Kent Farrington was runner-up, and spoke about his Aachen debut; “That pole today was really expensive... I was not so happy about that, but I thought my horse was great all week. It is a fantastic show and it is amazing just to be here. So for me now it’s already a dream. I came very close today. That was a very painful last rail, but Christian was awesome."

Kent also explained that they were very happy with their team performance in Aachen, being second in the Nations Cup and today with two American riders in the five-horse jump-off. Especially the younger riders on their team (Reed Kessler and Lucy Davis) have performed very well all week and also proved their strength under pressure.

Marcus Ehning, third placed, stated how he felt about the one little expensive mistake on the DHL-fence causing him the victory; “After today I decided not to send any more packages with the DHL,” he joked!

Marcus on the question on his thoughts about the Alltech World Equestrian Games in Normandy and what horse he would chose to take, the German rider said was happy that it was not his job to chose the team or decide whether it would be Plot Blue or Cornado who would be given the chance there.

Frank Rotenberger, course designer, was happy with the result in the Grand Prix and having five riders in the jump-off. He explained how building for the best riders in the world is always a challenge and described it as "walking on a thin wire".
