The Olympic Games individual final | Thrills and spills (Part two)

Wednesday, 24 August 2016
The Olympic Games Rio 2016

The 20 best from Friday's first round of the individual final qualifies for the second round at the Olympic Games. Six of them went double clear, and took part of the jump-off for the medals. To end 4th then is probably not the best feeling, and that is exactly what happened to Steve Guerdat and Nino des Buissonnets. On the other hand, to win the Olympics in London in 2012 and then four years later to finish 4th at the Olympics in Rio is a fantastic achievement! All photos (c) Jenny Abrahamsson.

These two had high hopes to live up to: McLain Ward and Azur. They really did a great job and ended 9th.

Luck was not on Jeroen Dubbeldams side: He and Zenith ended the second round 0,02 seconds over the time allowed - stopping them from taking part in the jump-off for the medals.

Several had voted for at least one of the Germans to take an individual medal, but it didn't turn out that way this year. Here Daniel Deusser with First Class, ending 9th after an unlucky fault in the second round.
