Friday's main class in Leipzig, a 1.50m Table A competition, went to Pius Schwizer (SUI) on the 11-year-old gelding Leonard de la Ferme CH (Landjuweel x Indigene de Corday). Out of 50 starters, 18 pairs rode a clear round – but no one came close to Schwizer's winning time of 61,92 seconds. And, so the keys to the first prize – a brand new Mercedes Benz – were handed over to the Swiss rider.

Ludger Beerbaum (GER) on the 18-year-old stallion Chaman (Baloubet du Rouet x I Love You) made the home crowd very happy with a brilliant round, placing second with the time of 64,11 seconds. Scott Brash (GBR) on the 13-year-old mare Hello Annie (Contendro I x For Pleasure) took the third place with a time of 65,20 seconds.

"He can turn very quick and he does it simple, I think he is the best Swiss horse I have ever ridden. I will ride another horse in the World Cup on Sunday, Leonard is going to start once more tomorrow and then he is done for the weekend. The World Cup Final in Omaha is not the main goal for me; I have so many nice, younger horses coming up also – so if I don't make it to the final, it is ok. But of course I will do my best on Sunday," Schwizer said about his winning horse and his plans for the rest of the weekend.

On the question about the 18-year-old Chaman still looking to be in the shape of his life, runner-up Beerbaum commented: "As a second horse he is nice to have with, so he can have a bit of fun. Every horse is different and Chaman is one of those horses that actually go better the more he does – he doesn't need to have too many long breaks."

"My horse has had a long break and I went around where these other two did tighter inside turns. I think it was a difficult enough course, I am happy with my horse today," said Brash after the class.

The other five-star class of the day, a 1.45m speed class presented by IDEE Kaffee went to Harrie Smolders (NED) on the 13-year-old gelding Zinius (Nabab de Reve x Kannan) with a time of 58,69 seconds. The second place went to Andreas Kreuzer (GER) on the 11-year-old gelding Quick Jumper (Quidam's Rubin x Escudo I) with a time of 58,86 seconds. David Will (GER) on the 12-year-old mare Velvet Brown (For Pleasure x Concerto I) placed third with a time of 59,23 seconds.
