The 2017 Z-Tour at Zangersheide in Lanaken, Belgium came to a close on Monday with a CSI3* 1.50m Grand Prix wrapping up this year’s edition of the popular tour.

Only five of the 58 riders in the class managed to prodce clear rounds over the first round track build by Luc Musette, with the course asking difficult questions from the horses and the riders – especially with the open water jump set away from the in-gate followed by a combination and then a delicate last line from an oxer to a vertical.

Best of the five pairs in the jump-off was the world-class combination of Penelope Leprevost (FRA) and the 12-year-old mare Ratina d’La Rousserie (Quaprice Bois Margot x Apache d'Adriers), who were almost a second faster against the clock than runner-up Gert-Jan Bruggink (NED) on Connelly 2 (Calvados Z x Jalisco B). Third place went to Karel Cox (BEL) on Cor van de Wateringshoeve (Thunder van de Zuuthoeve x Lys de Darmen), who was almost two seconds behind Leprevost. With four faults in the jump-off, Rodrigo Giesteira Almeida (POR) ended fifth and Evi Bengtsson (GER) fifth.
