Nicola Philippaerts (BEL) and H&M Harley vd Bisschop (Dulf van den Bisschop x Coronado) were the fastest in Thursday's CSI5* 1.55m Mercedes-Benz Championat of Hamburg, which means the Belgian rider can go home from the German event in a brand new Mercedes-Benz.

With his round in 69.37 seconds, Philippaerts was almost two seconds faster than runner-up Luciana Diniz (POR) with Lennox (Lifestyle x Grannus).

“My horse jumped fantastic and I’m very happy to win here in Hamburg,” Philippaerts said after the win.

“Lennox is normally my so called ‘car-horse’. When he jumps a class where there is a car to win, he usually wins it. Nicola was no gentleman today,” Diniz laughed after ending second and continued: “But I’m very happy that Lennox jumped with such energy and happiness today.”

As many as 21 riders cleared the course, and another nine riders cleared the fences but ended up with one time penalty. Third place went to Ireland’s Shane Breen with Can Ya Makan (Canturo x Fara), fourth place to Sergio Alvarez Moya (ESP) with Charmeur (Numero Uno x Gelha’s Vdl Emilion) and fifth place to Piergiorgio Bucci (ITA) with Deniro by Argentinus.
