Friday's CSIO5* Longines Grand Prix of La Baule went to the host nation, courtesy of Patrice Delaveau on the 13-year-old gelding Aquila HDC (Ovidius x Bollvorm's Lauriston).

Worth 150 000 Euro, this prestigious 1.60m Grand Prix had 47 horse-and-rider combinations lined up to compete for the win with only seven of them managing to produce clear rounds to move on to the jump-off. There it was Patrice Delaveau who clocked the fastest time in 38.58 seconds, beating USA's Kent Farrington on the 12-year-old Gazelle (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Indoctro) by nearly a second.

Belgium's Gudrun Patteet and the 9-year-old Sea Coast Just The Music (Tornedo FCS x Quidam de Revel) finished in third place, a little over two seconds behind the winning time. With one down in the jump-off, Shane Sweetnam and Chaqui Z (Chacco-Blue x Quinar Z) ended fourth, and Thierry Rozier on Venezia d'Ecaussinnes (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Lys de Darmen) fifth.

"It is a real pleasure to win here, especially with the public behind us, it is something very important for us, the French riders. When I walked the course, I thought the Grand Prix was very well balanced. In the end, there were seven clear rounds, with the faults equally distributed, I think the course was well designed, with little heavy scores. In the future, we have big events, the target is to bring Aquila HDC at his best. The program of the horse is ready until Tryon, we have to keep him in good shape till then,” said Delaveau after his victory.

Earlier in the day, Gudrun Patteet won the 1.45m Prix Bouygues Immobilier - also counting for the Longines Ranking. Aboard Sea Coast Atlantic (Schilling x Aramis de la Cense), the Belgian rider was the fastest with her time of 67.75 seconds. French rider Emeric George and Rocker d’Ysieux (Crown Z x Royal Feu) placed second with a time of 68.30, while Swiss rider Paul Estermann ended third with Chiccago K CH (Calvados Z x Lordanos) in 70.50.
