It was Mario Stevens who won the German Championship 2018 in Balve this weekend, after collecting only three time faults over the four rounds of competition.

Stevens was aboard his new ride Talisman de Mazure (Quaprice x Alcamera La Silla), who he only has been competing once ahead of the championship. “I expected everything but this when I came here!” a happy Stevens said after his win. “Talisman was just better and better for every round and in the last round he really fought for me. I’m so happy to have him and that we found this great connection so fast.”

Just six week ahead of the championship Stevens went through an emergency operation because of stomach issues, but that didn’t stop him from ending up on top of the podium.

Stevens’ neighbour Guido Klatte Jr ended second with Qinghai (Quidam de Revel x Cordalme Z) with a total score of four faults. It was four riders that ended all four rounds with four faults, but Klatte had the fastest time and took the silver medal ahead of Michael Kölz with Anpowikapi (Askari x Raphael) who secured the bronze.

On Saturday, Angelique Rüsen ended on top of the podium when the ladies championship was decided. Both Angelique Rüsen and Inga Czwalina ended the three rounds with only one time fault leading to a jump-off that Rüsen finished with four faults riding Reavnir (Ricardos x Rombach), in comparison to Czwalina’s eight faults riding Cezanne 48 (Cardenio x Acobat II). The bronze medal went to Julia Schönhuber with Quiete (Avenir x Bramosetta) after having a total of three time faults.
