Janika Sprunger wins the Emirates Airline Dubai World Cup Grand Prix

Janika Sprunger (SUI) and Bacardi VDL (Corland x Kannan) finished on top of Saturday’s 1.60m CSI5*-W Emirates Airline Dubai Grand Prix FEI Jumping World Cup. 

Only two riders went double clear over the Grand Prix course, and with a time of 49.96 seconds in round two Sprunger was almost 1.5 seconds faster than runner-up Paolo Paini (ITA) with Ottava Meraviglia di Ca’San G (For Pleasure x Caletto I). Third place went to Philipp Weisshaupt (GER) with Che Fantastica (Check In 2 x Pablo) after finishing the shortened course in 47.85 seconds, but with four faults. 

Linda Heed (SWE) and Jarvis van D Abelendreef (Nabab de Reve x Heartbreaker) ended fourth – also with four faults in the second round – followed by Mark McAuley (IRL) with Vivaldi du Theil (Quaprice Boimargot Quincy x For Pleasure), who finished on five faults after having one time penalty in the first round and four faults in the second. 

Earlier in the day, Georgia Tame (GBR) won the 1.45m Longines Accumulator riding Z7 Caretina (Coltaire Z x breeding unknown). Tame was followed by David Simpson (IRL) with Jenson (Verdi TN x Padinus) in second, Janakabhorn Karunayadhaj (THA) with Hoepala vh Daalhof (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Clinton I) in third, Emilio Bicocchi (ITA) with Evita SG Z (Verdi x Codexco) in fourth and Anna Kellnerova (CZE) with Balguero (Balou du Rouet x Andiamo Z) in fifth. 

Friday’s 1.55m Azizi Developments Golden Cup was won by Luis Sabino Goncalves (POR) with Dominka van de Lucashoeve (Cardento x Chin Chin). Goncalves was the fastest out of four double clears in the class. The runner-up position went to Linda Heed (SWE) with Jarvis van D Abelendreef (Nabab de Reve x Heartbreaker), with William Funnell (GBR) on Billy Diamo (Cevin Z x Andiamo) in third and Mohd Osama El Borai (EGY) on Quintero (Quasimodo Z x Equador) in fourth. Mark McAuley (IRL) ended fifth after four faults in the jump-off riding Vivaldi du Theil (Quaprice Boimargot Quincy x For Pleasure).
