In the last week leading up to the Longines FEI World Cup Final, WoSJ catch up with some of the world’s best riders as they head for Gothenburg. Here Egypt’s Abdel Said fill us in about his plans and thoughts for the final.
Which horse will you be riding in the final?
“I am taking only Jumpy van de Hermitage for the World Cup Final, and Arpege – a new mare – to gain experience in the other classes.
I gave Jumpy a little break, after also leading my league, and then did Paris as a preparation ahead of Gothenburg.
During the last month towards the World Cup Final, Jumpy has been working twice a day. He feels fit and ready. He’s a big horse so I think the speed leg will be the hardest for me, but we are ready to give it our best shot.”
Who do you think will win?
“I think there are some strong combinations. I think Henrik von Eckermann will go hot and motivated, his mare is in good form and he will be hot in front of a home crowd.
I also think Daniel Deusser is in great form and had a fantastic qualifying season, he’s looking strong. Of course, I am also very hopeful and positive to achieve a good result myself!”
How special is it to compete in the Longines FEI World Cup Final?
“I think it’s very special. I did two World Equestrian Games, but no World Cup Final yet so this we’ll be very exciting for me!”
