49th Holsteiner Grading and Elite Riding Horse Auction

From 31 October to 2 November the breeders’ focus is on Neumünster where the Holsteiner Verband major stallion grading with 73 two-and-a-half-year-old stallion hopefuls having their big day is on the schedule.

Top sires and exceptional sport horses like for example Casall, Clarimo, Carinjo and Livello have been discovered at Neumünster and their offspring now represent the Holsteiner studbook all over the world.

73 Holsteiner colts will be judged by the grading commission during the Neumünster grading. These pre-selected colts boast top Holsteiner genes as well as impressive type, jumping ability, movement and very interesting dam lines.

Avail yourself of the opportunity to secure Holstein’s cream of the crop at the auction of the licensed stallions and non-licensed colts on Saturday, 2 November 2019.

The grading lot is again very much influenced by the Cor de la Bryère sire line. Caretino, who stamped his offspring with his quality, appears as much as 18 times in the colts’ pedigrees through Casall as sire, damsire, second and third sire. Moreover, breeding director Dr.Thomas Nissen is “particularly pleased” about promising young sires like Catch, Charleston and Million Dollar, all of them successful  sport horses presenting their first crop for stallion inspection being represented by three offspring each. Seven-year-old Zuccero, bronze medallist at the National Championships, fields two young stallion candidates, as well.

In addition to young sires, proven and international sires are in on it as well, including for example Comme il Faut and Cascadello, Balou du Rouet, Carembar de Muze, Cicero Z, Clarimo, Cornet Obolensky, Emerald van 't Ruytershof, Vagabond de la Pomme, Van Gogh, Eldorado van de Zeshoek, Kannan, Chopin and For Pleasure, to name only a few. Not to mention Diamant de Semilly, who has founded a dynasty of his own in Holstein with Diarado and his son Dinken, offering a great alternative to the C blood. The L-sire line which has by now lost the influence on Holstein it used to have is also represented at Neumünster through colts by Livello, Lord Z, Lint and Levisto.

Moreover, the selection of stallion candidates is completed by three colts carrying dressage blood and a half Thoroughbred. Escolar, Fidertanz and Sezuan send three quality offspring which will demonstrate their movement on the longe already on Thursday evening. As ever, the highlight of the stallion grading is the free jumping of the colts scheduled to start at 8.30am on Friday, 1 November.  Hengste. “The colts from this age group we saw at the pre-selections generally did a very good jump and this impression will be confirmed at the grading as well”, Dr. Thomas Nissen is certain.

Same as in previous years, videos of the colts to be put to auction after the grading will be available on the Holsteiner Verband website well in advance. Radiographs may be downloaded. Sales information is available in the catalogue and on the website. The auction starts on Saturday afternoon after champion stallion has been announced – always a very emotional moment you should not miss.
