Twelve riders qualified for Sunday’s final at the German Championships at Ludger Beerbaum’s Riesenbeck International. Coming into the final on a score of zero, was Philipp Weishaupt – rider at Beerbaum-stables – who once again jumped a flawless round with the 13-year-old mare Asathir (Diamant de Semilly x Papillon Rouge) to become the 2020 German Showjumping Champion.

"Everyone had big expectations," said Philipp Weishaupt, who also considered the home advantage as pressure for the Beerbaum-riders. “It's been good for all of my colleagues to be able to ride here though, because over the past few months we haven't had any big shows. This was the highlight of the season.”

The new German champion, who already claimed the title once in 2009, found the competition to be great. “It was exciting until the end,” Weishaupt said.

Silver went to Maurice Tebbel on the 11-year-old stallion Don Diarado (Diarado x Lord Lancer) with a score of 1.25 points. “A huge compliment to the organisers here at Riesenbeck International. After my mistake at the beginning of the championships, I thought I'd try again today. And it worked," Tebbel said.

Mario Stevens, the bronze medallist, commented on how this championship result with his 11-year-old Landano (Lord Pezi x C-Indoctro) was of particular importance. “We are breeders, we brought this horse up ourselves. I expected everything, but not that!” he said overjoyed.

The first of Sunday’s two rounds at the German Championships was also a CSI3* 1.55m class counting for the world ranking, and it was won by Denis Lynch (IRL) with Chopin's Bushi ( Contendro II x Nairobi) after a clear round in 64.02 seconds. Maurice Tebbel (GER) and Don Diarado finished second with a time of 65.42 while Christian Kukuk took the third place with Quintino (Quinton x Cracker Jack) in 66.30 seconds.
