Longines FEI European Championships 2021

It was an emotional day at the Longines FEI European Championships 2021 at Riesenbeck International on Sunday as the host nation’s own Andre Thieme and DSP Chakaria brought home the individual gold medal. Thieme has a special bond to the 11-year-old mare and said: “I don’t know how many times I can say this, but I am very blessed with that horse. She is something very special!”

“She’s a family horse; I am just as much in love with that horse than I am with my wife – and she accepts that. It’s special,” Thieme laughed.

“I never jumped something like this in front of the home crowds, it was my first time and it felt extra, extra, extra amazing – it is definitely something special,” Thieme said about taking the gold medal, which followed Germany’s team silver. “When I won the Hamburg Derby for the first time, I thought that was the best win ever, then we won the $1 Million Grand Prix – and I thought ‘Oh, man, this is the best win ever’... But emotionally, for everyone in Germany, for all the spectators here, for my family, for my mum and dad – nothing compares even close to this win today.”

With these words, we look back at Thieme’s unforgettable day!
