Press release from Mediterranean Equestrian Tour

It’s that time of the year: On September 28, the Autumn MET 2021 kicks off at the Centro Ecuestre in Oliva Nova, Spain. “We are ready for the competitions to begin and can’t wait to welcome horses and riders back to Oliva Nova,” MET Event Director Bettina Pöhls said.

With nine sand arenas built by Klaus Dammann, 380 permanent stables and 660 tent stables, paved parking lots for trucks, a variety of restaurants at the showground, a shopping village and a 500 m distance to the beach, the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour (MET) is a must-destination for many of the world’s best horses and riders every year.

This year’s edition will have a total of €1,46 million in prize money on offer and the nine weeks of competition will have no less than 31 classes counting for the Longines Ranking. Divided into three tours, each of them runs for three consecutive weeks and includes CSI3*, CSI2*, CSI1* and CSIYH* competitions. The second and third week of each tour concludes with a CSI3* Grand Prix, which gives an opportunity to qualify for the 2022 World Equestrian Games in Herning, Denmark.

The action kicks off on September 28 with MET I, which runs until October 17. MET II runs from October 26 to November 14, while MET III takes place from November 23 to December 12.

As usual, the 2021-edition will be an international affair, with horses and riders from over 40 countries entered to compete. Olympic Champion Ben Maher (GBR), Olympic team bronze medallist Jerome Guery (BEL), Olympian Willem Greve (NED), five-star Grand Prix winner Alberto Zorzi (ITA), as well as the Philippaerts-family (BEL), will all be among the heavy-weights attending the Autumn MET 2021.

Looking forward to another edition of the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour, Alberto Zorzi said: “The competition is always good, I love jumping in Oliva Nova. The facilities are perfect, and for the horses the conditions are great!”
