Press release from Split Rock Jumping Tour

The Columbus leg of the Split Rock Jumping Tour (SRJT) concluded on Sunday, October 10, highlighted by the $100,000 Grand Prix CSI2*. After 35 horse-and-rider combinations navigated Bernardo Costa Cabral’s (POR) 16-effort course, it was ultimately Kristen Vanderveen (USA) and Bull Run’s Faustino De Tili who topped the podium. Second place was claimed by 16-year-old Eric Krawitt (CAN) and Godfather B Belesbat, with Cormac Hanley (IRL) and Graf Compliment in third place.

After the first round of competition, a total of seven combinations navigated the track fault-free to advance to the jump-off. First to go was Nick Dello Joio (USA), who found victory earlier in the week in the $10,000 Vitalize 1.40m FEI Speed. Vanderveen contested the track next, relying on her long partnership with the 16-year-old stallion by Berlin to cross the timers at 37.47 seconds, a time that would hold up through the remainder of the class.

“The history that I have with this horse gives me a huge advantage. I trust him and he almost reads my mind. He has such a huge stride and like I said, we really trust each other, so I was a little conservative about the turns [in the jump-off] just to make sure I didn’t slice anything too aggressively. I decided to really ramp it up with a good gallop and do what I could to the last fence,” Vanderveen commented.

Vanderveen is no stranger to the winner’s circle at SRJT, having won the $50,000 Restylane Welcome CSI3* during the second week of the Split Rock Hunter Jumper Classic in Lexington earlier in the year. Looking ahead, Vanderveen will attend the inaugural Fort Worth International CSI4*-W, where she plans to contest qualifying points towards the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Final.

The remainder of the 2021 season of the Split Rock Jumping Tour will continue to host exciting competition across the country, with the next stop taking place at the Aiken International CSI3* on November 9-14. Other stops include the Fort Worth International CSI4*-W in December and our newest location in Sarasota, with a CSI2* rating and taking place January 26-30.
