GC Prague Playoffs 2021

Class act: Sweden's Henrik von Eckermann and the 11-year-old gelding King Edward once again showed what a special partnership they have as they delivered two amazing fast and clear rounds to take the win in Saturday's €1.25 million Longines Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix at the Prague Playoffs.

The Prague Playoffs goes all in when it comes to shows, lights, entertaining the audience and presenting the riders. For the LGCT Super Grand Prix, the riders were presented to the audience 1,5 hour ahead of the class.

A double clear for Sergio Alvarez Moya and Alamo! In the end, the two had to settle for the runner-up position, when Eckermann shaved off 1.66 seconds on the Spanish rider's time in the second round.

Olympic Champions Ben Maher and Explosion W delivered an easy clear in the first round. In the second round, the pair had the fastest time, but with a rail down on the penultimate fence they had to settle for the third place.

Darragh Kenny and the super-consistent VDL Cartello were the first to deliver a clear in round one, and it was no doubt about how the Irish rider felt about the performance. In the second round, the couple unfortunately had a pole down to end fourth after a fast round.

Scott Brash and Hello Jefferson had to see a pole fall in the first round. But, with a very fast clear in the second round, they put the pressure on those to come. Brash climbed three spots from the first to the second round, to end fifth.

Daniel Deusser and Killer Queen VDM also had four faults in round one, and with a slower clear than Maher, Kenny and Brash in round two, they had to settle for the 6th place.

Spencer Smith and Theodore Manciais ended 7th after four faults in each round, here entering the ring next to a gigantic profile picture of the American rider.

Eight place went to Niels Bruynseels with Delux van T & L, after the Belgian rider had a total of eight faults – just like Smith.

John Whitaker and Unick du Francport came back strong from nine faults in round one, to end the second round with only two time faults.

There were lots of emotions after Olivier Robert and Vangog du Mas Garnier started off with a flying clear round. Unfortunately the pair had to see 12 faults added to their score in the second round.

Harrie Smolders and Bingo du Parc didn't have the best start after ending the first round with 12 faults. The second time around it went better though, as they jumped all fences clear to finish with an expensive time fault only.

Peder Fredricson and H&M Chrsitian K finished the first round with four faults. In an attempt to climb on the result list, Fredricson put the gelding in top gear for the second round. However, a misunderstanding at fence ten put an end to Fredricson's plans.

Bryan Balsiger – the youngest rider of the class – and AK's Courage had a fantastic first round all the way to the last fence. After a distance that was a bit far away from the last oxer, AK's Courage almost pushed Balsiger out of the saddle in her attempt to reach the back pole. In the second round, the rythm was missing with the pair finishing on twelve faults.

It was not Sameh El Dahan's day. After getting eight faults in the first round, he retired with WKD Aimez Moi in the second round.

In the first round, Malin Baryard-Johnsson's El Barone 111 Z jumped fantastic all the way to the triple combination at no. 12 where the stallion put the breaks on – which caused elimination for the pair.

The happy winner!

The prize giving in Prague is something extraordinary! The riders walk in by foot and are celebrated before the horses and grooms enter the arena.

When the celebration of the riders was finished, the grooms and horses entered the ring to be presented to the audience and for the grooms to receive their prizes.

And the winning pair!
