Press release from Herning2022

The ECCO FEI World Championship in jumping in August 2022 will be a fantastic experience. The world's top riders and horses meet in the battle for medals, both individually and with teams. Qualification for the Olympics in Paris is at stake, and the final of the team competition will be jumped under the floodlights, so the audience can look forward to a real thriller. Riders can also bring a second horse for the CSI3* competition, which means there will be lots of action for showjumping fans at the ECCO FEI World Championships 2022 in Herning, Denmark.

At the European Championships in Herning in 2013, cheers resounded for several minutes in the stadium, when Frenchman Roger Yves Bost and Castle Forbes Myrtille Paulois landed flawlessly after the last fence, securing the individual gold. Jumping at the European Championships was an excellent experience for both riders and the audience. In August 2022, it is once again the large football stadium in Herning which hosts the horses and riders competing at the World Championships and it has been renamed Stutteri Ask Stadium for the occasion. With a size of 120 x 72 meters, it gives course designer Louis Konickx (NED) the best opportunities to design challenging and nail-biting tracks during the championships.

Team competition under the floodlights

Pace, courage, control – the Agria FEI World Jumping Championship presented by Helgstrand opens with an action-filled speed competition, where horses and riders must work together to hopefully jump a clear and fast round. The result of the speed competition is decisive both individually and for the teams with riders and horses being under pressure from the first round of jumping.

Approx. 40 nations will be represented in jumping, and it is expected that around 25 of them will field teams. In 2018, there was a dramatic team final at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, where the American team took the victory on home soil after a nail-biting jump-off.

The team competition stretches over two days, and the decision is made on Friday evening from 9 p.m. under the floodlights, which will create a real atmosphere for the exciting final open to the top ten nations.

The World Championships are an essential part of the qualification for the Olympics in Paris 2024, and it adds an extra dimension to the finals in the Olympic disciplines in Herning.

Agria Super Sunday

After three exciting jumping competitions, riders and horses have a day off, and the 25 best riders will meet in the intense battle for individual medals on August 14 during the Agria Super Sunday, which will be the festive end to the World Championships.

International jumping

In addition to Stutteri Ask Stadium, the organisers are building another outdoor arena, BB Horse Arena, with approx. 2500 seats. It provides space to invite the championship riders to supplement their championship horse with another horse to participate in the CSI3* classes. Non-championship riders can bring two horses to the CSI3* or CSI2*. The classes in the CSI3* mainly take place at Stutteri Ask Stadium and ends with the Global Trucks Grand Prix on Sunday morning, August 14. There will also be international classes for pony and amateur riders, and some of their competitions will take place inside the main arena. All non-championship classes can be viewed at Zibrasport Equest.

Good facilities for horses and riders

The organisers behind Herning2022, Jens Trabjerg – CEO Sport – and Casper Cassøe – CEO Operations – have from the beginning set the bar high for the championships. The World Championship-horses are housed in permanent stables. Adjacent to Stutteri Ask Stadium are three warm-up arenas. One warm-up arena is covered with a dimension of 25 x 70 m, the other two have a dimension of 30 x 70 m. The riders can train inside the stable area. Here, four training areas with a size of 20 x 60 meters will be established, as well as lunging arena and an area where the horses can be walked and have the opportunity to be hand-grazed. Adjacent to the training and warm-up arenas, there will be a café area for riders, grooms, horse owners, etc.

Looking forward to welcoming you

“We are very much looking forward to welcoming spectators, riders and horses to Herning. We will do our best to create a good environment for the 2- and 4-legged athletes, because it enables them to perform their very best in competition. We look forward to fantastic jumping during Herning2022, and an extraordinary final on August 14 during Agria Super Sunday, where jumping concludes the World Championships in Herning,” says Jens Trabjerg, CEO Sport.

The ECCO FEI World Championships 2022 Herning will be held in four disciplines: Jumping, dressage, para-dressage and vaulting from 6 – 14 August 2022.
