Penelope Leprevost and the 12-year-old stallion GFE Excalibur de la Tour Vidal (Ugano Sitte x Ogano Sitte) won Saturday's CSI4* 1.55m Andalucia Big Tour Grand Prix at the Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain. 

It was a big and technical Grand Prix track that Javier Trenor had built in the David Broome arena for the 50 horse-and-rider combinations that had qualified, with a total of thirteen fences that included a tricky triple combination, as well as a difficult combination towards the end of the course, before an airy white wall and a huge oxer waited on the final line. Eventually, only four of the horse-and-rider combinations managed to answer all the questions asked and delivered clear rounds. 

As last to go in the jump-off, Leprevost and GFE Excalibur de la Tour Vidal chased the time to beat of 40.13 seconds set by home hero Armando Trapote (ESP) on Tornado VS (Toulon x Contender) – shaving off several seconds when stopping the clock at 35.92. With four faults in the jump-off and a time of 34.73 seconds, the fastest of the class, Felipe Amaral (BRA) took the third place with Androide 3K (Bras-H x VDL Zirocco Blue). 

Also with four faults in 35.93 seconds, Jens Baackmann (GER) and Nomanee (Non Stop x Carthago Z) finished fourth while Laura Klaphake (GER) and Quin 13 (Verdi TN x San Patrignano Corrado) ended fifth with a time fault from the first round.

Earlier in the day, in the CSI4* 1.45m Small Grand Prix of the Big Tour, Klaphake took the top honours with the 11-year-old Davenport VDL (Diamant de Semilly x Indoctro). No less than fifteen of the 86 horse-and-rider combinations in the class moved on to the jump-off, where Klaphake was the fastest with her time of 32.67 seconds. Andre Reichmann (BRA) followed in second place aboard Quinetto Z (Quinar Z x Couletto), with a time of 34.11, while third place went to Tim Wilks (GBR) and Diamanthella VG Z (Diamant de Semilly x Hickory Mail) that crossed the finish line in 34.65. Hendrik-Jan Schuttert (NED) on Good Farming HS (Carrera VDL x Atlantic) finished fourth and Michael Hughes (USA) on Maya-S (Chacco-Blue Heartbreaker) fifth.
