Harrie Smolders has taken over the reins on the 14-year-old stallion Darry Lou (Tangelo vd Zuuthoeve x Nabab de Reve), owned by Evergate Stables.
Darry Lou was sold to Evergate Stables in 2020 after having enjoyed great success with Beezie Madden, who in 2019 won the CN International presented by Rolex at Spruce Meadows with the stallion. Since the beginning of 2021, Darry Lou has been competed by Nayel Nassar – who has recorded good results with Darry Lou, including a win in the CSI5* 1.55m CANA Cup at Spruce Meadows last summer. This weekend, Darry Lou is making his debut with Smolders in the saddle at the Z Tour in Lanaken, Belgium.
“At this time it made sense for Darry Lou to be in Europe with Harrie, both to continue his promising career as a top show jumper and as a breeding stallion. We are very fortunate to have a great team of horses and riders at Evergate Stables, and we want to form the best possible partnerships for each of them,” said Jennifer Gates, founder of Evergate Stables. “We’re excited to see this new partnership develop.”
