The 2022-edition of CSIO5* St. Gallen kicked off on Friday with a home win for Barbara Schnieper (SUI) and Escoffier (Lord Z x Numero) in the 1.50m Prize Suttero.
The class – judged as a Table A against the clock with a jump-off – had 42 horse-and-rider combinations at start. A total of seven pairs cleared the first-round track and joined the deciding jump-off, where Schnieper stopped the clock on 35.15, taking home the win ahead of John Whitaker (GBR) on Sharid (Toulon x Vancouleurs) in runner-up position 0.85 seconds behind. Francesca Ciriesi (ITA) on Cape Coral (Comme Il Faut 5 x Friedenstaum) placed third with a time of 36.83 seconds, while Dermott Lennon (IRL) on L'Esprit Hero Z (Lexicon x For Pleasure) finished fourth and Joseph Stockdale (GBR) on Equine America Kandleford (Kannan x Pythagoras) fifth.
Earlier in the day, the 1.45m Prize CSIO Friends went to Francisco Jose Mesquita Musa (BRA) on Catch Me Marathon (Contagio x Werther). With a time of 35.84 seconds in the second phase, the Brazilian topped a starter field of 48 horse-and-rider combinations. Four Swiss riders followed to complete the top five: Dominik Fuhrer (SUI) on Ghost (Lord Z x Cantos) took the runner-up position, while Steve Guerdat (SUI) on Is-Minka (Mylord Carthago x Flyinge Quite Easy 958) placed third, Barbara Schnieper (SUI) on Inook (Verdi TN x Mr. Blue) fourth and Aurelia Loser (SUI) on Anaba Haize (Ravage de Mars x C Indoctro II) fifth.
