Edited press release from Spruce Meadows
The CSI5* 1.50m Canadian Utilities Cup was Saturday's feature competition at the Spruce Meadows 'Pan American', presented by Rolex. Over 40 horse-and-rider combinations took on the 570 metre, 16 jumping effort track set out by FEI course designer Peter Grant (CAN) hoping to jump clear rounds and make it into the jump-off.
Six of the competitors made it through round one without faults and proceeded to the jump-off. The shortened track covered 380m and needed to be completed in 57 seconds. Kent Farrington (USA) and Orafina (For Fashion x Canturo) proved to be in top form laying down the fastest clear round in the jump-off in a time of 44.61 seconds.
"She's a very, very careful horse. It's why I move around between the levels here [Spruce Meadows] and let her experience the big jumps. Being here [Spruce Meadows] gives her a lot of growth," Kent Farrington said about Orafina.
Juan Jose Zendejas Salgado (MEX) finished second with Just Nice van het Indihof (Deauville de la Vie x Toulon), with a time of 44.96 in the jump-off. The third place went to Giavanna Rinaldi (USA) and Carollo (Chacco-Blue x La Piko), that clocked the time of 45.24, while Paul O'Shea (IRL) took fourth with Squirt Gun (Diarado x Quick Star) and Manuel Gonzalez Dufrane (MEX) fifth with Martialis (Nabab de Reve x Lord Z).
