It was game on at the Guadalajara Country Club Thursday, as the Triple Copa Scappino CSI4*-W, presented by Audi, played host to the $610,000 ($32,000+ U.S.) Copa Longines Scappino Longines FEI World Cup™ Qualifier. In a jump-off of 14 horse and rider combinations, with six double clear performances, Arturo Navarro Reynoso and the 14-year-old Oldenburg mare Questina [Quidam's Rubin x Quick Star] proved impossible to beat, crossing the jump-off timers clean in 43.96 seconds to claim victory. Francisco Pasquel and Naranjo (Robin II Z x Quappa) finished a close second going double clean in 44.41s, while Nicolas Pizarro and Carquilot (Carinue x Quilot) took the third spot on the podium, clean in 45.96s.

With the $1,900,000 ($100,000 U.S.) Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Guadalajara, the penultimate North American West Coast qualifier for the 2019 World Cup Finals in Gothenburg, Sweden, set to take place Saturday, Jan. 26, starting positions in Saturday's feature event were on the line. The 32 athletes, representing seven countries, came out firing on all cylinders as they navigated course designer Guilherme Jorge (BRA)’s 1.50m first round track.

Ireland’s Jordan Coyle was the highest-placing international rider, finishing fourth with American show jumper Andy Kocher’s Bold Prinz. Pasquel, who topped the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Guadalajara in 2017, also qualified for the jump-off on his mount Coronado (Cassini I x Accord II), finishing ninth with a four fault score.

Navarro Reynoso credited his victory to his swift turn back to the second to last  fence, which came at a right-to-left angle across the large, expansive arena.“The second round was very forward,” he noted, “but we jumped here last week [in CSI3* competition], and she’s been going very well.”

Following the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Guadalajara, Navarro Reynoso plans to jump Questina in additional World Cup competition at Leon’s Ban Bajio Classic CSI4*-W.

“I’ve had her for two years,” he said. “We had a lot of trouble [in the beginning], because she was always nervous, she just wants to go.”

The Triple Copa Scappino, CSI 4*-W, presented by Audi continues through Sunday, Jan. 27th, 2019. The event features the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Guadalajara on Saturday, January 26th, 2019, at 2:30 p.m. CT.
