At the 2024-edition of Gothenburg Horse Show, Friday's CSI5*-W 1.50m Prize of Volkswagen went to Sweden's very own Petronella Andersson and the 10-year-old mare Odina van Klapscheut (I Am Moerhoeven's Star x Landor S).
Counting for the Longines Ranking Group C, the 1.50m competition against the clock saw 42 horse-and-rider-combinations line up for the challenge. Stopping the clock on 56.94 seconds, Andersson took a popular home win ahead of Julien Anquetin (FRA) and Blood Diamond du Pont (Diamant de Semilly x Arpege Pierreville) in the runner-up spot with a time of 57.03.
"Actually, my plan was not to ride fast because we have the World Cup on Sunday, but my horse is naturally quick," the happy winner said in a press release from Gothenburg Horse Show. "I got exactly the round I wanted; it was a great feeling. It is nice to have a good feeling ahead of Sunday, but now I will try to focus."
Peder Fredricson (SWE) and Catch Me Not S (Cardento x Ramiro's Son) placed third in 57.25, while Pieter Clemens (BEL) and Quatinka (FRH Quaid x Perigueux) finished fourth in 58.67 and Yuri Mansur (BRA) fifth in 59.86 aboard Catch Me Marathon (Contagio x Werther).
The second CSI5*-W class of the day, the 1.45m Prize of Maria Åkerberg - a table A against the clock counting for the Longines Ranking group D - went to Erika Lickhammer-Van Helmond (SWE) and Koberlina TN (Eldorado vd Zeshoek x Verdi).
With a time of 50.70, the Swede took the win ahead of the on-form Julien Anquetin and Farah Tame (Quadrio Tame x Panama Tame), who had to settle for the runner-up spot in 51.42. Emma Emanuelsson (SWE) and Ladina (London x Chacco-Blue) concluded the podium, placing third in 52.24.
