Saturday's highlight at CSI5*-W Jumping Mechelen was the KBC Bank & Verzekering 1.50m with a jump-off, where only nine horse-and-rider combinations cleared the demanding first round.
Jessica Springsteen (USA) on the 10-year-old SF mare Volage du Val Henry (Quidam de Revel x Cassini I) took home the win with a blazing jump-off round in 34.18 seconds, pushing Niels Bruynseels (BEL) on the 9-year-old BWP gelding Kopernic van Orti (Diamant de Semilly x Lord Z) to the runner-up position with their time of 34.28. "I thought it was a big enough class," Jessica commented afterwards. "My horse jumped amazing tonight, she really helped me out."
The young sensation Thibeau Spits (BEL) on the 8-year-old Holsteiner mare Classic Touch DH (Casall x Corrado I) took the third place, while Pieter Devos (BEL) on the 10-year-old Zangersheide gelding Carpe Diem DV Z (Contact vd Heffinck x Orlando) placed fourth and Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) on the 11-year-old Hanoverian gelding Best Boy 2 (Contagio x Sunrise) fifth.
Saturday's first CSI5* class, a 1.40m table A against the clock went to Eugenio Grimaldi (ITA) and the 13-year-old SF gelding Scara Mouche (Calvary F.C. x Super de Bourriere). Harrie Smolders (NED) on the 12-year-old KWPN mare Corrada (Oklund x Lauriston) took the runner-up position, while Jos Verlooy (BEL) on the 10-year-old BWP mare Jacobien Dwerse Hagen (v-Vite x Querlybet Hero) placed third. The fourth spot went to Thibault Philippaerts (BEL) on the 10-year-old BWP mare Juvente van de Kakebeek (Chatman x Eros Platiere) and fifth to Gilles Thomas (BEL) on the 9-year-old Holsteiner mare Calleryama (Casall x Contender).
