Julien Epaillard (FRA) took his second win in just as many days, when he outclassed his competitors in Saturday evening's CSI5*-W 1.50m Estrella Damm Trophy in Madrid. With Solero MS (Silvio I x Espri), Epaillard stopped the clock in the winning round at 34.33 seconds, which was more than a second faster than runner-up Harry Charles (GBR) with Aralyn Blue (Chacco-Blue x Ludwig As) that crossed the finish line in 35.54.
Thirteen horse-and -rider combinations cleared the first round and moved on to the winning round, where six delivered a second clear.
Third place went to Marcus Ehning (GER) with Funky Fred (For Pleasure x Pilot) in 35.98 seconds, fourth place to Pieter Devos (BEL) with Kannabis van de Bucxtale (Contact van de Heffinck x Concorde) in 36.15 seconds and fifth to Manuel Fernandez Saro (ESP) with Acoufina PS (Action-Breaker x unknown) in 38.12 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Guy Williams (GBR) took the top honours in the 1.45m Marques de Vargas Trophy, riding Rouge de Ravel (Ultimo van ter Moude x Quouglof Rouge). Pilar Lucrecia Cordon (ESP) followed in second place with Guust van den Katten Eeck (Zazu x Caesar van de Helle). Edward Levy (FRA) took third with Uno de Cerisy (Open Up Semilly x Siego), Eric van der Vleuten (NED) fourth with Dreamland (Sunday de Riverland x For Pleasure) and Daniel Deusser (GER) fifth with Jasmien vd Bisschop (Larino x Chin Chin).
