Marcus Ehning (GER) and A la Carte NRW (Abke 4 x Lux) took the top honours in Friday’s 1.50m Telegraaf Prize at CSI5*-W Jumping Amsterdam.
Ten riders qualified for the jump-off, where Ehning was the fastest with a time of 36.10 seconds. Only 0.02 second behind followed Ehning’s compatriot Philipp Weishaupt (GER) with Coby (Contagio x Escudo 19), while Weishaupt’s colleague from Ludger Beerbaum Stables Eoin Mc Mahon (IRL) took the third place with Chacon (Chacco Blue x Aventyno) after stopping the clock at 37.93 seconds.
“I was very satisfied with the first round,” Ehning commented afterwards. “I’ve been competing A la Carte NRW for three quarters of a year now and we haven’t done that many jump-offs yet. It is therefore a special victory for me, and the first win over a difficult course for my horse. A la Carte NRW is a well-known stallion in Germany. I expect a lot from him this year.”
“I know it’s a horse that can jump anything, with which I can do extremely short turns. I tried it and I’m glad it worked out. It was a super course and for the jump-off it was good that ten combinations were qualified. The audience has seen beautiful sport tonight,” said Ehning.
“I’m very happy that I got to ride at Jumping Amsterdam, that’s why I wanted to offer something tonight. I am very happy to be here, because it's a nice qualifier. The Dutch can be happy that they have such a beautiful competition," Ehning concluded.
