As the last pair entering the ring out the nine horse-and-rider combinations that cleared their way into the second and decisive round in Saturday's CSI5*-W 1.55m Prize of iWest at the 2024-edition of Stuttgart German Masters, Belgium's Pieter Devos and the 10-year-old mare Jarina J (Cicero Z x Harley) took the top honours – besting a field of 34.
Counting for the Longines Rankings Group C, Saturday's feature class at the traditional German venue in Stuttgart saw nine pairs clear the first-round track set by Christa Jung (GER), while only four managed to deliver another clear in the jump-off. Harrie Smolders (NED) and Kaspar R (Eldorado vd Zeshoek x Baloubet du Rouet) were leading the way with a time of 42.31 seconds, when Devos and Jarina J stopped the clock on 40.84 – pushing the Dutch rider down to second place.
Much to the delight of the enthusiastic crowd in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle, three German riders cleared their way into the second round. While Wilm Vermeir (BEL) and Top Invest 313 Z (Thunder vd Zuuthoeve x Concorde) slotted into third front of them with a time of 45.16, a fence down in 37.16 seconds left Richard Vogel (GER) and Crack HV (Cornet Obolensky x Candillo) to fourth, followed by Tim Rieskamp-Goedeking (GER) and Zinano G (Zinedine x Ferragamo) in fifth.
