Ireland's Michael Pender and the 13-year-old gelding HHS Calais (Cavalier Royale x Obos Quality) won Sunday's CSI5*-W 1.55m Grand Prix H.H. Sharjah Ruler Cup presented by Longines in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
Eight pairs out of the 37 horse-and-rider-combinations at start jumped a double clear over the two rounds set by Louis Konickx (NED), with Pender and HHS Calais taking the win when the clock stopped on 50.39 seconds. Celine Schoonbroodt-De Azevedo (BEL) and Deesse des Embruns (Mylord Carthago x Orame) took the runner-up spot in 50.70, while Shane Breen (IRL) and Scarteen (Cardento x Chellano Z) completed the podium with their time of 51.64 seconds.
Khaled Almobty (KSA) and Spacecake (Stakkatol x Kannan) finished fourth in 52.01 and his compatriot Ramzy Al Duhami (KSA) fifth in 53.09 aboard Untouchable 32 (Van Helsing x Lady's King) in this Grand Prix counting for the Longines Ranking Group A.
