Denise Moriarty: “It is a nice change of pace”

When at home...

Kent Farrington’s show groom Denise Moriarty sees the sudden change in pace as a good chance to assess, regroup and unwind. In this blog, Denise tells how Team KPF is coping with the current wipe-out of the show calendar – caused by the coronavirus Covid 19 outbreak.

“For us at Team KPF we are just pretty much deflating, we built ourselves up for a busy spring so right now we are just letting the air out of the horses and letting them unwind. We are just keeping the horses ticking over, but with no pressure on any of them.

The older, more seasoned ones that did a lot already this WEF are just chilling in the field so Kent is getting time to spend on some of the younger ones and some new ones. Actually, it is a nice change of pace. There is no stress, no rush – you can just take your time as there is no pressure to be at the ring to do course walks or get horses in for vet-check. It is actually quite enjoyable to be able to spend some time with the horses with nothing else to do than to be with the horses.

"As to the barn, we are just trying to stick to the protocols the government is giving us. We do the barn and we go home – limiting our socializing obviously to none, which again is not a bad change of pace. It is quite nice not to have any obligations or any stress.

We are just going to keep ticking away until we can make some further plans. It is a good chance to regroup, assess the horses that we have, and go through all the stuff we have – our barn stuff and our personal stuff. Being on the road all the time, you tend to hoard a lot of stuff so it’s a nice chance to clean all that up. If you haven’t worn it for a year, you are probably not going to wear it at all so then it’s time for it to go somewhere else.

All in all, there are worse places to be then Florida right now!

Denise
