Darragh Kenny (IRL) and the 13-year-old Chic Chic (Comme Il Faut 5 x Contendro I) took a home win in Wednesday's CSIO5* 1.60m Sport Ireland Classic as the 2024-edition of RDS Dublin Horse Show kicked off at Ballsbridge.
Judged as a Table A against the clock, Wednesday's feature class counted for Longines Ranking Group D. Stopping the clock on 69.17 seconds, Kenny and Chic Chic topped a starting field of 50 horse-and-rider combinations, taking the win ahead of their compatriot Michael Pender and HHS Los Angeles (Le Roi 10 x Cavalier Royale) in second with a time of 70.20.
McLain Ward (USA) and First Lady (Don Diarado x Lordanos) placed third after clocking a time of 70.96, followed by Cian O'Connor (IRL) and Fermoy (Chacco's Son x Light On) in fourth in 71.83 and Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) aboard Glamour Girl (VDL Zirocco Blue x Caletto I) in fifth in 72.09.
Earlier in the day, the victory in the 1.45m Speed Takes went to Francis Derwin (IRL) and Parvati AEG (Arezzo VDL x Darco) with a time of 52.51, followed by Niamh McEvoy (IRL) and Templepatrick Welcome Limmerick (Limmerick x Lux Z) in second in 53.46 and Daniel Coyle (IRL) aboard Lena VDL (Carrera VDL x Mr Blue) in third in 54.53.
The CSIO5* 1.45m Minerva Stakes by LHK Insurance saw Emilie Conter (BEL) and Ocean Quality (Baltic VDL x Calato Z) take the top honours with a time of 56.42 seconds, followed by Julien Gonin (FRA) and Estrella de La Batia (Diamant de Semilly x Lando) in second in 57.91 and Cian O'Connor (IRL) aboard Fox Chapel (Calvaro F.C. x Tlaloc M) in third in 58.15.
