The 1st Summit of the Jumping Owners Club took place at the Fieracavalli, where members gathered in Verona (Italy) to share proposals on promoting and improving the sport, with horse welfare at the heart of our concerns. In addition to the presentation of the JOC’s roles and missions by its Chairman, Ms. Robin Cleary Parsky, important research supported by Scuderia 1918 was presented in collaboration with the University of Turin and the University of Parma, emphasizing the importance of analyzing sports performance while always considering the welfare of the sport horse.

The true players of equestrian sport are undeniably the athletes—riders and horses—who step into the arena, challenging themselves and others by fractions of a second. However, behind the success of this partnership lies not only performance but also the visionary support of knowledgeable men and women who foster the growth and careers of these athletes: the horse owners.

On Saturday 9, they all participated in the first Jumping Owners Club Summit, promoted by Scuderia 1918 and Fieracavalli. These two entities share the same vision: owners are not just businessmen or women but true custodians of the sport, playing a crucial role in the protection and promotion of horses.

In this setting—where Chairman Ms. Robin Cleary Parsky and 80 national and international owners were present—research supported by Scuderia 1918 and developed in collaboration with the University of Turin and the University of Parma was also presented. This research adopts a One Health perspective, where environmental sustainability, rider welfare, and horse welfare are inextricably linked.

One such project is CHAMP (Combining Horse Athletic Measurements with Precision Genomics), launched in September 2024 and set to last two years. It aims to bring about a significant shift in the approach to breeding, training, management, and selection of horses, paving the way for greater precision and genetic progress in the equestrian world. This revolutionizes the way sport horse performances are measured and analyzed, utilizing advanced technologies like artificial intelligence in conjunction with innovative scientific research in genomics.

“Horse owners are the ultimate representative of their horses. They are the horse’s support system. Obviously, owners want the best opportunities for their horses in the sport and in their health and welfare. Our mission as the Jumping Owners Club is to promote the sport and the role of owners. Our discussions in Verona furthered our goal of including owners in the important decision making process with their horses,” said Ms. Robin Cleary Parsky, Chairman of the JOC. “I would also like to underline the impressive efforts of Emanuele Anchisi in gathering a distinguished group of horsemen and horsewomen and for organizing a look into the scientific efforts being done worldwide to benefit horse owners and horse breeders. This Summit has been a success from start to finish!”

To further highlight the connection between horse, rider, and owner, Fieracavalli selected the work VLINT by Daniele Basso—a recognized Italian artist knighted by the Italian Republic in 2022—to award the owner of Iron Dames My Prins, the winning horse of the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Grand Prix of Verona.

This artpiece celebrates primordial human ingenuity, the instinct that transformed a stone into a shard and a shard into a tool, symbolizing humanity’s unique ability to relate to Nature. “Today, this capability must be directed toward respecting life and the environment,” says Daniele Basso. “In this context, “VLINT” specifically speaks of listening, empathy, symbiosis, and instinctive union between horse and rider...a bond that goes beyond reason, originates from the heart, and leads to extraordinary experiences and achievements.”
