In 2022, Edwina Tops-Alexander embarked on an extraordinary journey that extended far beyond the showjumping arena. Known globally for her remarkable career and unwavering determination, Edwina made bold moves by founding TOTI Equestrian, a luxury jewelry and accessory brand, and the ITOT Foundation, a philanthropic initiative inspired by her beloved horse, Itot du Château. Two years on, she reflects on the challenges, triumphs, and lessons learned as an athlete, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.
A year of growth and reflection in the arena
For Edwina, 2024 brought its fair share of ups and downs in the competitive world of showjumping. Despite challenges, her resilience and commitment remained steadfast.
“This year hasn’t been my strongest in the ring, but I’ve learned so much again throughout the year. At the end of the day, perseverance, determination, and management still remain my core values as a professional.”
With highlights like a second-place finish in Shanghai with Fellow and the addition of a promising new horse, Cappuccino, to her team, Edwina’s passion for the sport remains undiminished.
“Finishing up 2nd in Shanghai with Fellow was definitely the highlight of this incredible new stadium. I’ve also enjoyed watching young riders come through the ranks—it’s exciting to see the future of showjumping unfold. Of course, Chloé has really evolved a lot throughout the year, which gives me so much joy and pleasure.”
In 2022, Edwina launched TOTI Equestrian, a luxury jewelry and accessory brand that embodies the values of challenge, connection, and confidence—the same principles that have driven her success as a showjumper. A lot of people might now know this, but each piece is personally designed by Edwina, combining elegance and equestrian flair to create versatile jewelry that resonates with a global audience.
“TOTI is a reflection of my journey—a way to define and express the values that have driven me both in sport and in life.”
One of the brand’s most exciting developments is the recently launched Essential Treasure Line, offering beautiful, affordable gifts designed to make luxury accessible. TOTI’s collections now include unisex designs, further broadening their appeal.
“I’ve designed every item myself, including the logo. Starting a new luxury brand in today’s market is one of my biggest challenges—but it’s also what makes it so rewarding. In life, working hard gives back more rewards and respect.”
The response from the equestrian community has been overwhelmingly positive. TOTI’s pieces have been celebrated for their elegance and sentimental value, with many seeing them as a connection to the sport they love.
“People are thrilled to wear TOTI, not only for its meaning but because it’s versatile, elegant, and has an equestrian touch. Whether competing or enjoying everyday moments, there’s something for everyone.”
The ITOT Foundation: Healing through horses
Alongside TOTI, Edwina founded the ITOT Foundation in 2022, inspired by her legendary horse, Itot du Château, and his extraordinary spirit. The foundation focuses on harnessing the therapeutic power of horses to support adults and children with disabilities.
“The ITOT Foundation is my tribute to Itot du Château’s extraordinary bravery and warrior spirit. I’ve seen how horses can heal and transform lives, and my dream is to bring that power to as many people as possible.”
This year, the foundation partnered with the Sint Oda Center, creating meaningful connections between horses and individuals with disabilities. Edwina reflects on the moments that have touched her heart:
“Every time I visit Sint Oda, I see how horses connect with their guests. The attention to detail and the joy it brings is extraordinary. Horses can be healers, and their power to transform lives is something I hope to share with the world.”
Looking ahead, Edwina is excited to expand the foundation’s reach. A new series showcasing the foundation’s impact is set to launch soon, providing a deeper look into the transformative power of equine therapy.
Balancing sport, business, and family
Balancing her roles as an elite athlete, entrepreneur, and philanthropist is no small feat, but Edwina thrives under pressure.
“I love pressure—it’s motivating, and it’s what makes everything more exciting. Balancing showjumping, TOTI, and the foundation is challenging, but I truly love it.”
Family remains at the heart of her life. Edwina finds immense joy in watching her daughter Chloé’s progression in showjumping and cherishes the moments spent with her husband, Jan, amidst their busy schedules.
As she looks to 2025, Edwina is ready for new opportunities:
● Upcoming competitions in Doha.
● Exciting new product launches for TOTI Equestrian.
● Expanding the ITOT Foundation’s initiatives globally.
“I believe in life everything is possible.”
