When Luc Ruant, head of the Ruant family and creator of Picobellohorses, entered the world of equestrian sports many years ago, he could never have imagined that in 2021 he would be hosting the very first Picobello Auction. In everyday life, Ruant is active in the fashion and event sector. In addition to his full-time job(s), he fortunately also makes time for his horses. "My horses give me peace of mind. They always bring me new energy," he smiles.

Ruant could not hide his passion. "I was not an unsuccessful rider myself, but that was a long time ago. I then started to focus on breeding. It has always been our intention to use the best blood. Sometimes it concerns our own breeding products, but it also concerns (young) mares that we buy directly from other breeders.”

The Ruant family's selection policy and breeding have therefore already earned their spurs. Everybody knows Hello M'Lady (ex-Picobello Gwindeline, by Indoctro) from Scott Brash and Izzy by Picobello (ex-Izzy v/d Wateringhoeve, by Cicero Z) from Bertram Allen. Or what about the two horses who were selected for the Olympic Games in Tokyo: Romeo 88 (ex-Champion of Picobello, by Contact vd Heffinck), ridden by Harry Charles and the unfortunately prematurely deceased Born To Be Picobello (by Berlin) from Scott Keach. These references all have one or more related horses, foals or embryos in the auction. How about offspring from the full sister of Hello M'Lady or from the same dam as Born To Be Picobello?

Luc Ruant states: "I actually hate the slogan 'breeding is gambling'. If you work with good genetic material, there is not much gambling to it. Of course, it is true that you do not breed a top horse from one day to the next. Breeding is thinking in generations and that is where I think we can make the difference. All horses in the auction come from lines that we know through and through. We know the quality we are offering.”

“At Picobellohorses there are three characteristics a horse must have to meet our strict demands. A horse must have blood, quality and mentality. All the material offered in the auction should have those qualities".

Please do not hesitate to contact the auction committee with any further questions concerning the collection on offer.

Hope to see you soon!
