Maikel van der Vleuten's 13-year-old mare Dana Blue (Mr. Blue x Hemmingway) has sustained a serious injury after a fall at Al Shaqab in Doha, Qatar.

“We had a misunderstanding in the warm-up on Wednesday, which caused a bad fall,” van der Vleuten says to World of Showjumping. “As a result, Dana Blue fractured her knee on the right front leg. While we are hoping that she makes a full recovery, we are talking about months of box rest to start with."

With van der Vleuten in the saddle, Dana Blue was part of the Dutch team at the 2019 European Championships in Rotterdam. Last year, the pair took back-to-back Grand Prix wins at the CSI4* Hubside Jumping in Grimaud, placed third in the CSI5* Grand Prix in Doha and third in the CSI5* Grand Prix in Bordeaux.
