While the war in Iran rages on and the crisis in the Middle East continues, FEI sanctioned competitions at the Al Shaqab Equestrian Centre in Doha, Qatar, will resume this week. On Tuesday, the FEI published a travel advisory where it is highlighted that any decision to travel is taken at the participant’s own risk.

“In view of the current regional security situation, participants are strongly encouraged to consult their national authorities for the latest travel advice and guidance before making any arrangements to travel to the Middle East, or to neighbouring countries that may be directly or indirectly affected by the ongoing conflict,” the FEI stated.

“Participants should also closely monitor updates issued by embassies and other official governmental channels, as the situation may evolve rapidly. Any decision to travel is taken at the participant’s own risk. The FEI continues to liaise closely with the relevant National Federations and authorities to monitor developments and assess any potential impact on FEI Events. Depending on the specific circumstances, and following a thorough assessment, the FEI may allow FEI events to take place in the region on a case-by-case basis," the statement continued.

"The safety and welfare of Athletes, Officials, Support Personnel and Horses remains the FEI’s highest priority. Participants should be assured that any decision taken on an individual basis to not travel or to withdraw from participation for security reasons, in line with governmental advice, will not result in any consequences from the FEI. For any questions or concerns, please contact your National Federation or the FEI.”

Only two weeks ago, 147 horses and accompanying staff returned safely to Europe after being stuck in Doha, Qatar, following the cancellation of the Longines Global Champions Tour of Doha. The event, which was scheduled to take place at the Al Shaqab Equestrian Centre in Doha from 4 to 7 March, was cancelled two days prior to show start due to the situation in the region – with grooms and horses already on-site. Prior to the LGCT of Doha, the Doha Equestrian Tour 2026 had been running for six weeks. Now, it resumes – this week with CSI5* and CSI3* competitions.
