Ahead of the FEI Sports Forum 2026, which will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland, next week, the International Jumping Riders Club (IJRC) has shared its opinion on several topics, including costs and fees at FEI events, as well the Olympic regulations for LA28.
The IJRC also informed that they have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) – first signed in 2014 – with the FEI.
Costs and fees
The IJRC has been requesting that extra costs and mandatory fees at FEI events comply with a list agreed upon by the FEI, the IJRC, the Alliance of Jumping Organisers (AJO) and the Equestrian Organisers (EO). While the list was meant to be implemented on 1 January 2026, the implementation date has been postponed to 1 April 2026 following concerns from certain stakeholders.
Olympic regulations
The IJRC has also submitted proposals to rule changes, including to the FEI General Regulations article 117.2, as well as the Olympic regulations.
“Under the current format, individual athletes who are not part of a team do not compete in the Team Qualifier,” IJRC explained in their press release. “As a result, they enter the Individual Competition with horses that have not yet competed, while team athletes have already completed one or two rounds. This creates a potential competitive imbalance. To ensure sporting fairness and equal preparation conditions, all individual athletes should be required to compete in at least one round prior to the Individual Competition.
To address this, IJRC proposes Individual athletes will take part in the first round of the Team Qualifier competition, starting before the team athletes. The results of this round, together with the Individual Qualifier, should count toward determining qualification for the Individual Final.”
